So much for my diet

I tell you, good friends are dangerous. Here I am trying to lose the weight I gained over Christmas and New Years, and my two best friends ruin it for me in one week. First, Bree and I went to dinner at Olive Garden on Monday. I LOVE pasta. I had linguini (it had that little "healthy low fat choice" symbol next to it), and water. I think that was pretty good, but it was probably more calories than I needed - they give you enough food for three people and call it a single serving. But I guess I can't really blame Bree for Monday because it was my idea to go to dinner. I am going to blame her for Thursday though. We went to lunch at Casa Mia for her birthday - which we wouldn't have done if it hadn't BEEN her birthday. And we had dessert - about two pounds of chocolate cake - which we wouldn't have had if we couldn't have made the excuse that it was BIRTHDAY cake. So it's all her fault - especially because I tried to get her to take the leftover pizza home and she made ME take it. She thought I would share it with my family - but I guess she doesn't know me very well. I never share food that I really LIKE with my family (this includes, but is not limited to, pizza, pasta, chocolate, and cookies). So, I'm going to say that if I gained any weight on Thursday, it was Bree's fault. But then there was Friday. My friend Jennifer did a vocal recital last night along with another soprano and a mezzo soprano (names omitted to protect the innocent). It was AMAZING. They each sang four or five solo pieces and then there were two duets and two trios. Jennifer did Handel's "Let the Bright Seraphim," "Heart We Will Forget Him" (text by Emily Dickinson, music by Aaron Copeland), "Summer Time" from Porgy and Bess, Micaela's Aria from "Carmen," and - this was my favorite - "Art Is Calling For Me," from The Enchantress, by Victor Herbert. I knew Jennifer could sing - but I had no idea she was also a comic actress. That song was hilarious! Anyway, the recital was fabulous. And afterwards there was a reception - with COOKIES and BROWNIES. I told myself I would just have one, but, well, you know.... I couldn't stop at one. So I had four. And then I took some home. I ate them for breakfast. Long story short - I wouldn't have eaten all those cookies and brownies if I hadn't gone to the recital, and I went to the recital to hear Jennifer sing, so I'm going to blame HER. So Thursday was Bree's fault, and Friday was Jennifer's fault. But I'm not the kind of person who blames other people for everything. I am willing to take responsibility for the ice cream I ate for lunch today. There was no one else here when I ate it...
