People say (and write) the funniest things...
One Autumn, just as the weather was starting to get nasty, the ladies in my kids' orthodontist's office sent an email to every patient detailing the office's policies in case of bad weather. But the words "bad weather" didn't sound eloquent enough for these ladies. No, they needed a particular word that would say "bad weather" all by itself. They knew they had heard a word like that, but what was it? I'm sure they thought about this for a while. Unfortunately they didn't consult a dictionary. The word they came up with was "inclimate." (That's not a word, in case you were wondering). The word they wanted was "inclement," meaning "severe, rough, or harsh; stormy." Dictionary.com is free, folks - use it!
